[listening] What's On The Turntable?

Kill II This have released the fifth single from their new album Variant. However, it's an older song that they initially released in 2019, before the pandemic postponed the release of the album. Coma Karma is a more radio friendly song.

I don't usually go in for Eurovision, mainly because I believe the concept is terribly outdated and the whole thing is very politically influenced. However, this year, one act has caught my attention and that is Bambi Thug. Their music sounds like the lovechild of Marilyn Manson and the Prodigy, in what is describe as "Electro Metal". (When I say they/them/their, Bambi Thug identifies as Non-Binary) And after listening to more of their music, I don't think Babi Thug's entry is the best of their songs. Their cover of Zombies by The Cranberries is a better track, in my humble opinion.

Last night in Manchester literally on the turn table…

(YouTube would only allow me to upload a silent version… boo!)

Kill II This' new album Variant is an amazing album! I listened to it all the way through twice on Friday, including the five tracks I've previously heard. There are some killer riffs and I love how the album showcases Simon's dynamic vocal range. It has to be up there with my favourite of album theirs, Deviate.

Here's another track from the album, Sleeper Cell.

I only once ever came across a Jukebox with a single Metallica track on it and that was in the mid-1990s. The song was Nothing Else Matters.

IMHO, perfectly captures the essence of its era.
Another thing that happened in '79 was I joined the gaming group that I am now the elder statesman of. It never got a mention in Tom Robinson's song, though... 😉

I am still desperately trying to see if I can finesse getting to see Tom Robinson live this autumn, as he’s touring performing stuff from the two TRB albums in October and November, but I’m away the night he’s playing York. Anyone know what the fire station in Sunderland is like?

This may mark me in the outlier category, but when I was younger, yes, I enjoyed the Slim Shady raps in "Without Me" and the Batman-Robin (Dre and Eminem duo) with costume.

So obviously, the latest 2024 track "Houdini" by Eminem is a solid recommendation from me. And, yes, it pays musical homage to the 1982 Steve Miller Band song "Abracadabra".

WARNING: Explicity Lyrics (what did you expect, Eminem to shed his past?)

Apocalyptica went from four guys I saw busking in Covent Garden to international superstars. On that day I saw them, in the mid-1990s, I bought off them a copy of Apocalyptica Plays Metallica on CD. Today, now a three piece, they've released the follow up, Apocalyptica "Plays Metallica Vol. II".
