[listening] What's On The Turntable?

Messrs Mitchell, Trewavas and, to a lesser extent this time around, Beck, are back with Craig Blundell on the stool for the long awaited second album by Kino. Should be dropping on the mat tomorrow.

Been listening to the 5 albums King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard released last year. This is my favourite:

The old warhorses are back in the car; it's a Mercedes 190E with 346,000 on the clock but is just run in.

I completely forgot about this one, which is sooooooooo wrong of me it's not true, my mate Keith Baker in his Slip Drive manifestation did a soundtrack for D101's River of Heaven Rpg by John Ossoway. Its the chilled out spaced out album I always thought Keith had in him, and a lovely little escape into an imaginary future for when the present gets a bit too much.

Been listening to Duke Special, one of those hidden treasures that has managed to elude the mainstream but really deserves to be better known. A wonderfully quirky, whimpsical, theatrical musician from Belfast

ooh, nice, feeding him from Spotify onto my Sonos now... Whimsy, touch of prog, bit Celtic, 80s flutters, I think a lot here would like him.

Today, and I have been quite poorly today, it's been the inestimable modern New Orleans cajun-jazz from Dr.John..

I am back in N'Orleans.. might try some Ry Cooder next..

He's brilliant - especially if you get to see him live, that's where he really makes sense.

Just saw Maddy Prior's show last night with Julian Hayley. Pretty much the same set as a year ago but another great evening out. Picked up the CD of the latest alum which pretty much repeats the show.

Remember seeing Maddy Prior and Steeleye Span a couple of times and being utterly struck by how tight their harmonies were, truly awesome.

Been going through a retro phase by digging out old vinyl. Saw these at Reading Festival way back in the 80's then saw them a year ago supporting Saxon. Still love the first two albums.

I've just discovered Chvrches and am struggling to take them off repeat on Spotify.
