Temptation waits... what are you resisting?

It does have interesting implications for the collectables market in terms of RPGs. It was originally possible for a game to be a super rare, one-time-only opportunity. Now, if it is showing high re-sale value on places like eBay the original producers can crowdfund a re-print at almost zero risk - established assets, limited upfront costs. Good for creators, bad for collectors.

I must admit, part of my thought process for backing the original campaign was “if I don’t like it, I will probably be able to resell it for more than what I paid.”

Truly iconic collectibles require the original publisher to go bust. For example, I have this extremely rare collectible Dark Heresy RPG from Black Industries. Only one hundred were ever produced, hence, I only use the regular one from Black Industries for Players and the rare limited edition only for myself and presentation events. To see it again on sale, a collector must pass away or suffer significant debt.

My favourite collectible is the German produced 200 copy set of all the Classic Traveller Alien Modules in a single gorgeous book.

These days, pretty much.

It's my opinion that three things make something truly collectable.

1. It must have been niche to begin with.
2. It must have been very limited in number.
3. It's no longer available or on general sale.

I don't think it's necessary for the publisher/manufacture to go bust for any of these to be achieved. I have highly sort after collectibles that were produced by companies still in business today. However, going bust would achieve all three criteria very quickly.

As an aside, did you notice S1E1 and S2E6 of Loki (the beginning and end) are both called “Glorious Purpose”?
Yes, that was perfection. :)
And the anachronistic TVA environment reminded me of the very best of old school Science Fiction, making the series so much more than a superhero story.
Hence, I hope there is no Season 3, because the very best Science Fiction usually ends this way, with the viewer/reader creating their own stories next.

In a lot of ways I prefer the SF side of the MCU (Loki, Guardians, The Marvels…)

I might just get this for the child room and tell the family it is just a toy clock that looks cool (not that it is Miss Minutes).

On second thought, I may not do this, since new MCU characters are just short memory fads, and only dedicated geeks will remember Miss Minutes a few years down the line. :-(

A number of games tempted me in the real at Dragonmeet. Seeing all the Mongoose Traveller supplements laid out on the tables made me want to dig deep and buy them all.

I almost weakened and got a copy of the new BRP core book and, much as I am not a fan of the Runequest Glorantha rules, it remains tempting to jump back in deep.

I know that the thing that is preventing me clearing all my Glorantha books is Pavis. You know how I am with city books, and it when I first came across it I couldn’t afford it. It was RQ3 before I could afford to get a copy. After I read it, I was hooked. If there was anything that would make me take the Tripod rules set and hack HQ to run with it, Pavis is it.

edit: the link to the previous post is the Chaosium BRP system and @First Age mentioning RuneQuest.
