[listening] Pleasant Green

I'm SLOWLY writing a novel, talking to some comics guys about doing a thing, and also working up a potential Pleasant Green supplement for Trail of Cthulhu (this isn't QUITE an announcement, but it does look like it's going to happen).

Collating all the Pleasant Green stuff together for a supplement is a big job, but it's also a great opportunity to expand the world even further and go deeper on the connections between people, places and things. Work like this can only make me better at what is still, supposedly, my day job.

Having just emerged from the wonderful rabbit hole of Pleasant Green, I'm intrigued and impatient to see what he comes up with. Same for the potential film / novel / next series of Lovecraft Investigations / anything else he comes up with! I want it all and I want it now.

Yes, I read that (but forgot to post about it here). I'm not sure what I think about it, though. One of the things I like about the Pleasant Green rabbit hole is how unexplained it all is, and I fear that a sourcebook may disappoint. (And do we really need stats for Parker?)

I know what you mean, and that is a fear I share. That said, I can see a sourcebook that rather than laying everything out in terms of facts and stats, is a compilation of rumours and eclectic odds and ends, which the GM can throw out there from which the group's story can be discovered (a bit like BitD / PbtA). Something a bit like his website: pleasantgreen.co.uk which is more another part of this collage of an evolving 'story' than a sourcebook. It could be disappointing, but could be brilliant. If anyone can pull it off, Simpson can.

Looking forward to The Haunter of the Dark in October - seems to be a continuation of the Blake House story from Bad Memories and The Whisperer in Darkness.

The episodes of New Tricks that Julian Simpson wrote/directed are also worth a watch as some of the themes he explores in the Lovecraft Investigations appear in embryo form e.g. the Rendlesham Forest incident in The Truth is Out There and 70s occultism in London Underground. Tim McInnerney's Stephen Fisher guest star character is plainly a close relative of the shifty establishment types he portrays in Aldrich Kemp and Mythos.

I'll look them up - I knew he did some, but didn't suspect that they would cover these themes.
