[generic] Pandemic VTT Bubble

I'm reasonably determined to get some mastery of the Foundry VTT as we switch our campaign to it. I *think* to get the Jitsi server WebRTC up and running I just need to enable the module which, by the look of it, I have done. I'm hopeful for good fully integrated AV at the table. The Pathfinder implementation is incredibly rich and fully featured. I expect it will be too clever for its own good for a while as I get used to it.

I've been having some trouble with Jitsi in the last few weeks. With 5 of us on last night, we could never get video for going for all of us at the same time, and I've been having that problem with different groups as well. When we switched to Zoom (courtesy of one player's partner) we had no problems for the rest of the night.

Has any else been having difficulties? I'm pretty sure it's not my broadband, I upgraded it a couple of weeks ago because there are four of us working from home now!

Interesting. I have the option of creating a custom Jitsi server, which may help, but what I'm aiming for is completely embedded AV within the VTT, not through a separate service. That limits my options. I'm going to summon @nclarke to comment on recent Jitsi usage and possibly @Ezio too.

Best thing for me to do is run some tests with people actually on the service. Plan B is just to run a Discord AV chat by the side.

I use the default one that is already in the A/V setup. To avoid having to do the messing with certificates I just host on the forge which does all that stuff behind the scenes for me. Not had a Jitsi issue for my games (only running one via FVTT at the moment though). I'll see about getting another game running during the week if I can. Getting a Thennla game set up ATM.

I'm really loving Owlbear Radio Rodeo at the moment. Run three games with it now, and it does exactly what I want it to do. I'm not keen on the dice rolling feature, it's a bit basic and doesn't accommodate multiple rolls well. Also it'd be nice not to have to replace the PC tokens every time you change maps but I can live with the deficiencies when the rest of it is so easy to use. Roll 20 had me completely flummoxed.

I used Jitsi last Furnace and found it crystal clear with five players. I used it a couple of weeks ago to do lockdown friendly tech support for a friend of mine, and had no trouble with video and sharing screens, although that was only with the two of us. The one downside I know of to Jitsi is that it doesn't currently play nicely with Firefox, although I believe this is being worked on. So if you're having problems, you might want to double-check that everyone is using Chrome. Anyone trying to use Safari for anything should be made to stand in the corner and think about what they've done.

I've yet to try incorporating Jitsi into Foundry/Forge, although it's definitely on my list of things to attempt.

We tend to use Discord for video calls most of the time, but our standby is Jitsi, which has always works really well, is super-quick to get up and running. One thing we tend to like Discord for is playing youtube or Spotify music through the channels, we can't do this in Jitsi (AFAIK) without doing something fancy like installing an app on my laptop to channel music through my mic channel.

How do you do that on Discord?

Role continues to develop. https://www.playrole.com/changelog

As we continue to evolve the platform and onboard more players, we want to give more people the flexibility to try out Role. To that end, we have opened up some permissions and features to players who are signed up for a Guest Role Account. With a guest account you will now have the ability to:

  • Create and manage 1 table for your own play group.
  • Upload up to 200 MB of custom assets to your library.
Misc Improvements and Fixes
  • Added camera, microphone, and connection quality indicators to player thumbnails during a live play session.
  • Video calls were dropping for sessions running longer than 4 hours. Now when that happens you will be automatically reconnected.
  • Added some screen reader support for Sheets.
  • Fixed screen reader support for the Dice Tray.
  • Fixed showing how many players are currently connected to a video call.
  • Fixed a bug where editing a Dice Pool would cause it to stop working until you refreshed the page.
  • Fixed a crash that sometimes occurred when viewing a sheet from your dashboard.
  • Fixed a crash that sometimes occurred when viewing a map.
  • Fixed having a minimized map becoming fullscreen again if someone else drew on it.

Guests can now run a table on Role for free.

You can now see how much of your asset storage quota you have consumed. I hadn't appreciated you get 5GB as a full member. It continues to develop well.

Foundry Content Announcements: [Kickstarter Content] Ruins of Symbaroum for 5E
======================================
Hey @everyone, happy Friday! I am thrilled to share that the fantastic Ruins of Symbaroum (for dnd5e) Kickstarter from our friends at Free League has added support for Foundry Virtual Tabletop as part of its hugely successful ongoing Kickstarter campaign.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1192053011/ruins-of-symbaroum-for-5e

With the stretch goals already unlocked, I can confirm that the Player's Guide and Gamemaster's Guide will be available for Foundry VTT and are included for all project backers at all pledge levels (except the "Retailer" tier). Foundry VTT support for the Bestiary is an upcoming stretch goal (#22) which your support of the project can help to unlock!

The Symbaroum game setting is rich, deep, and haunting - and I cannot wait to explore this enchanting world which has been re-balanced for familiar 5th edition rule set and mechanics. In addition to the setting, Symbaroum for 5E adds new character origins, classes, monsters, and much more. This is definitely worth checking out and I can't wait to see it in Foundry Virtual Tabletop!

Experimenting with Role some more; I now have my Dune 2d20 game set up for North Star, having built the character sheets by scratch; I'll probably share them to the community once I determine if they're sound at the weekend.

Role (https://www.playrole.com/ ) uses a very simple and visual editor; nowhere near as complicated as Roll20 and others but nowhere near as powerful. However, I really like this.
