Other Games Cyberpunk 2077 review – could it ever live up to the hype?

The game is awesome. The over hyped marketing created false expectations. The game is still damn good regard less. The outrage is not good.

And I picked up Mike Pondsmith's 2nd Edition this wee, since the first is too dear..

I'm enjoying it on my new superduper pc, but the main plotline runs on rails. A good three hours of it was cut scenes with you occasionally pressing buttons to do stuff that had minimal impact on the outcome. Its not a Fallout 4 beater in my opinion from what I've played so far.

It's the best CRPG I've played. Vast amounts of optional side content means I actually feel like I'm choosing my own path and playing my own character.

I'm playing on a gaming PC and the occasional glitch is more entertaining than anything else.

"Erm, Keanu? I know you're trying to do some important plot exposition here, but can we please talk about the levitating cigarette that's hovering between us?"

Development on consoles is rather different to development for PCs. Before anything can be made available, e.g. a patch, it has to go through the same process which the game had to go through to get on the platform. A process the publishers has to pay for. Therefore patches tend to come out rather more infrequently.

If Sony are pulling the game that really reflects badly on them and their review process which is supposed to prevent unsuitable stuff reaching the customer. The fact that there were problems which the review failed to notice reflects badly on the developer.

Not a computer gamer at all, but I was interested to see that at least one guide book out there includes a breakdown of the game's mechanics...

While yeah, of course we've got CP 2020 and RED to utilise, it might be delightfully meta to hack CP 2077's digital engine to run a P&P RPG!

96 hours later, I've finished my first playthrough, and I stand by my earlier comment about this being the best CPRG I've played. My definition of 'best' being that I'm emotionally invested in the character and able to make choices that reflect that, while at the same time running around in one of my favourite settings doing fun missions and stealing everything that's not nailed down.

Now I need to give it a rest for a while, as that last mission was an emotional rollercoaster.

Plus, many of the worst bugs were on the PlayStation 4. And CD Project are fundamentally a PC games business.

For the money invested in development, Cyberpunk 2077 sure delivers.

As a PS4 user. I will try again when the patches come out. The hours I put in were fun but the crashes every few hours started to whittle me down. When I could play crash free, it was an excellent game. Spent most of my time exploring and wandering. Tried different builds and enjoyed it.
