[generic] Blogger vs WordPress vs ?

I've been using WordPress for a long time now but the ads are becoming too intrusive for me; it used to be a single ad at the foot of each post, now there are four or five inserted at random in the body of the post; it will cost be £3 per month to lose those, not the end of the world but WordPress lost a lot of my goodwill when they banned me for a while because a bot mistakenly identified me as spam. Cheek.

So, I'm looking for an alternative, preferably one which is free but doesn't automatically drop ads all over the place.

How is Blogger (ex Blogspot) for that? What else are people using, and what does it cost?

My blog is on Blogspot. It's free and seems to be ad-free. Nothing fancy, but it does the job.

Exactly that. You can choose to enable adverts if you want to monetise but it’s not obligatory.

So, I switched to Blogger and updated the URL on my Tavern account page, and it's not syndicating. I don't remember changing anything else before, but maybe I forgot.

I've checked in Blogger and it looks like it's set to full share.

Any ideas please?

(I use different email addresses for Blogger and the Tavern, I did try to match them but for some reason the Tavern isn't sending confirmations to my gmail account, although it does send them to proton. "I confess I am wholly bemused.")
